At first glance, Instagram can be a daunting place. But as the platform now has over 600 million users, it would be a mistake for any e-commerce site to ignore this potential source of new customers.
Here I will outline 4 steps you can take to optimize and grow your Instagram page.
1. Your profile – the first thing a potential follower sees when they come to your page is your name, picture and bio.
For this reason, make sure to choose a name that is simple and easily expresses what your brand does. The use of punctuation is highly advised. For example, “miacupcakes”is harder to read than “mia.cupcakes”.

For other businesses, link to a site which is most likely to convince a user to come and buy something from you. An interesting “About Us” page could work, or maybe even a “Where to find us” page.

Instead, take note from other brands that often post photos suggesting a wider meaning. For example, an adventure clothing brand might want to post photos of people exploring and having fun, rather than straight up photos of their t-shirts.
4. Target new followers – the great thing about Instagram is that you, as your page, can go and engage with users all over the platform. This is what separates Instagram from Facebook, which only allows you to act as your page whilst commenting on your page.
