3 Simple Steps to Fix iPhone 5s Speaker Distortion

After having an iPhone 5s for less then a month, the speaker started to sound very distorted, almost like there was a loose wire or something. After doing a lot of digging through Apple support documentation, I discovered that it was not a hardware issue, but a software issue. There is also a workaround that you can do yourself, eliminating the need to go through the hassle of trying to get a warranty replacement handset. Just follow these 3 simple steps.

1. Turn off Wifi

Go to Settings / Wifi and turn it off.

2. Turn off Cellular Data

Go to Settings / Cellular and turn it off.

3. Restart the iPhone

  • Hold down the power key and home key until you see the apple logo.

Hopefully this issue will be resolved in the next release of iOS. This fix may also work on other versions of iPhones.

Are you kidding me! I replaced many parts inside, lost most of my hair, and spent a lot of money and my phone sounded the same. I followed your instructions, less than 2 minutes, and for free and my phone is fixed!
Thank You!!!

This worked--FIRST try!! My phone sounded distorted on literally everything, except Pandora was clear as a bell. So, I was totally confused and knew it couldn't be a blown speaker since its was working perfectly with at least one app. But this fixed it!

I can't believe this worked: 1 minute to narrow down the issue, 1 minute to find this post, 1 minute to fix. Done.
